Tom advises on corporate matters in the energy sector with a focus on M&A and joint venture matters, working with a range of clients from supermajors to individual investors. He also advises on a range of key industry contracts, including concessions, licences, PSCs and JOAs, and has a broad knowledge of commercial contracting. Tom trained at CMS and spent the first ten years of his career here. In 2024, he returned to private practice with CMS after several years as General Counsel of oil & gas companies operating in Africa.

  • Azule Energy on its first international farm-in, to Block 2914A offshore Namibia, with Rhino Resources.
  • bp on the acquisition of a stake in the giant Zohr gas field in Egypt from Eni, including the negotiation of a new JV arrangement.
  • Africa Oil Corp. on its farmout of its operated interest in Blocks 3B/4B, Orange Basin, South Africa to TotalEnergies and Qatar Energy.
  • OMV on its purchase of a stake in the Ghasha sour gas project, Abu Dhabi, from ADNOC.
  • Africa Oil Corp. on its subsidiary’s (Impact Oil & Gas) farmout of interests in the Venus discovery, Orange Basin, Namibia, to TotalEnergies.
  • The Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) on the purchase of an interest in the Atrush field in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
  • bp on the sale of the UKCS Magnus field and associated pipeline and terminal infrastructure to EnQuest plc, and on the sale of its BKR assets to Serica Energy.
  • Equinor on its purchase of an operated interest in the UKCS Rosebank field and multi $billion development from Chevron.
  • bp on the farm-in (and country entry) to three exploration blocks, offshore Morocco, operated by Kosmos.
