Key employment issues to be aware of internationally
In this edition of On your radar workplace culture and employee protections are prominent themes, with Poland introducing a broader definition of mobbing (harassment), alongside new employer obligations to actively prevent and address it. In Norway, the Working Environment Act now explicitly covers psychosocial factors including unclear demands and emotional strain. In Singapore, the High Court has ruled for the first time that there is an implied term of mutual trust and confidence in employment contracts.
Monaco consider a recent ruling by the Tribunal Suprême that explains the process for dismissing protected employees. Dismissal protections are also on the agenda in the UK where a major change in the landscape lies ahead, and reforms are expected to lead to more claims and higher costs.
Pay transparency continues to be a trend as more countries transpose the EU Pay Transparency Directive, whilst Sweden has announced a postponement of its transposition to 1 January 2027 following concerns about the administrative burden on employers.
Elsewhere, Brazil and Mexico discuss measures to reduce statutory working hours, and the regulation of digital labour platforms is considered by Slovakia.
