Tomasz Sancewicz is a Partner in the CMS Employment Team and a trusted advisor to international and domestic clients operating in Poland. With extensive experience across the full spectrum of employment law, Tomasz advises on strategic HR matters such as hiring models, working time, compensation frameworks, internal policies, restructurings, group layoffs, individual terminations, and dismissal strategies.

He is particularly recognized for handling sensitive and high-stakes issues, including executive terminations, workplace bullying, internal investigations, and compliance-related employment matters. Tomasz also plays a key role in M&A and transactional projects, coordinating employment aspects to ensure seamless execution.

Tomasz is known for his strong client focus, sense of ownership, and proactive approach -anticipating risks and opportunities before they arise. He believes that clear, effective writing is a cornerstone of great legal advice and invests in crafting practical, client-tailored communication.

A strong believer in innovation, Tomasz actively experiments with AI tools to enhance client service and internal legal processes. He is also deeply committed to developing legal talent - mentoring young lawyers and co-creating CMS Poland’s cross-practice mentoring programme.

He regularly contributes thought leadership articles to Poland’s leading daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita, and is the co-author of the practical handbook Systemy zarządzania zgodnością – compliance w praktyce.

Tomasz is recommended by The Legal 500 as a labour law specialist and recognized as a “Rising Star” in the field.

Relevant experience

  • One of the Advent International portfolio companies on the acquisition of the CEE business of a global generic and pharmaceuticals manufacturer and took care of the Polish employment angle of the transaction. This transaction was named CEE Deal of the Year 2019 by CEE Legal Matters.
  • A global investment bank on all sorts of employment issues, including: on-call duties, criminal checks process, maternity issues, team moves, non-compete issues, posted workers, employee representatives, digitalization.
  • Carried out forensic investigations for one of the clients from technology sector . He actively participated in the whole process being the part of the interrogation committee. This challenging experience broadened his already wide expertise in handling internal investigations.
  • A global company from the business advisory sector -  helping the Client to review, implement and translate its corporate policies, including code of conduct and other workplace regulations. Coordinating this project on a CEE level.
  • An international company from the agriculture business - advising in starting up their business operations in Poland, assisting in developing corporate standards in HR documentation, advising on closing down the business line in Poland.
  • A global company from FMCG sector - defending the Company in a precedent-setting litigation relating to overtime of field workers. Extensive legal experience, insight knowledge and scrupulous analysis of the facts helped to dismiss the case.
  • A franchisor of global brands - advising on a complex and contentious termination of a senior employee. It required a sensitive approach and extensive legal experience in handling discrimination claims.
