Alberto Galhardo Simões and Joana Brito Paulo, Partner and Counsel in CMS Portugal's Lusophone Africa team, have written an article for The Lightbulb Journal analysing the Angolan electricity sector, with a special focus on the importance of mini-grids for the development of the country's rural areas. This is at a time when, based on the country's electrification strategy, the Angolan government is actively promoting independent power production (IPP) to meet its energy needs and diversify its energy production sources.
According to the lawyers: “rural mini-grids represent a significant opportunity for private investors. They can serve as a cornerstone for the development of IPP projects in Angola, offering a scalable, flexible, and community-centred approach to expanding energy access.”
