Guinea-Bissau government announces privatisation of 80% of Guinea Telecom and Guinetel

About the Project:

The government of Guinea-Bissau, represented by the Minister for Transport and Communications, announced the launch of the privatisation process of Guiné Telecom and Guinetel (subsidiary of the former), two state-owned companies operating in the telecommunications sector.

These telecommunications operators provided fixed and mobile phone services in the country, but have been dormant in recent years.

The privatisation aims to put the companies back on the telecommunications market, develop the sector by installing and managing fibre optics in the country, and ensure greater autonomy of the telecommunications networks currently operated by multinationals Orange (French) and MTN (South African).

The Government is currently seeking experienced operators in the sector and potential investors, inviting them to express interest and availability to send information and schedule work meetings.

The privatisation process will be carried out through a public tender for the sale of shares held by the State, and will be technically advised by the IFC and the World Bank.
