Sofia Mateus is a Partner in the Employment, Labour & Pensions team.
She has over 20 years of experience and coordinates the labour litigation team, devising the strategy and action plan underlying any disciplinary proceedings, labour misdemeanour impugnation and labour or social security lawsuits.
Sofia coordinates all matters related to pension plans and funds, and is also responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing restructuring processes and the harmonisation of staff frameworks. She has extensive experience in managing collective redundancies and terminations, representing clients in negotiations, reviewing collective bargaining instruments, and liaising with employee representative bodies, including trade unions and works councils.
Sofia also provides day-to-day employment advice to national and international clients, particularly in the financial, insurance, industrial, construction, aviation, retail, pharmaceutical, and services sectors. This includes drafting legal opinions and memoranda, employment contracts, remuneration plans, organising working time and managing workplace transfers.
Sofia is acknowledged as Leading Partner for Employment by Legal 500 2025, and considered by Chambers Europe (2015-2019) as an Associate-to-Watch, and Up & Coming.
Sofia is consistently recognised for Labour & Employment Law by Best Lawyers and ranked Excellent by Leaders League 2026. In 2015, she was awarded by Forty Under 40 (Iberian Lawyer) as Lawyer of the Year in Employment.
