CMS strengthens Corporate/M&A team with Michael Marschall as partner
CMS continues to strengthen its Corporate/M&A practice and welcomes Michael Marschall as partner. With his extensive experience in domestic and international transactions, joint ventures, and corporate structuring, he enhances the Vienna team.
Prior to joining CMS, Michael Marschall served as partner in the Corporate/M&A practice of a leading Austrian law firm. His areas of expertise include private M&A transactions, joint ventures and strategic alliances, corporate reorganisations, and commercial contracting.
In addition, he advises companies, investors and entrepreneurs on succession planning, buy-and-build strategies and carve-out transactions. His client base comprises both domestic and international businesses, which he, which he particularly advises on complex and cross-border projects.
Throughout his career, Michael Marschall has gained significant experience across a range of industries, particularly in the energy, technology and consumer goods sectors. His transaction practice covers cross-border joint ventures, carve-out acquisitions and divestments, as well as complex shareholder agreements and cooperation structures. He advises clients throughout all stages of strategic transactions and partnerships, from structuring and negotiation through implementation and governance to reorganisations and exits.
At CMS, Michael Marschall will strengthen the Vienna Corporate/M&A team and further expand the firm’s advisory work, particularly in private M&A transactions and joint ventures. He will also contribute to the continued growth of the firm’s international transactional practice, with a particular focus on Central and Eastern Europe.

Michael Marschall brings a particular focus on the energy sector. He has extensive experience advising on renewable energy transactions and projects, joint ventures, strategic investments and energy-related infrastructure developments. Together with the CMS Energy & Climate Change team, he will further strengthen the firm’s integrated advisory services at the intersection of transactions and regulation. The recent appointment of partner Valentina Eigner fosters additional synergies between the Corporate/M&A and Energy & Climate Change practice groups.
Alongside his legal practice, Michael Marschall is co-editor of the handbook Joint Ventures in Practice, published by Linde Verlag in 2026. Featuring contributions from private practice lawyers and in-house counsel, the publication examines all stages of a joint venture, from structuring and day-to-day cooperation to exit strategies.
