Thomas Liegl has been admitted as a lawyer at CMS Vienna. With his appointment, CMS is strengthening in particular its Restructuring & Insolvency practice group and its Corporate Law/M&A practice, whilst at the same time focusing on the consistent development of outstanding talent from within its own ranks.
Thomas Liegl advises national and international clients, focusing primarily on insolvency and restructuring law as well as corporate law and M&A. His practice covers national and cross-border corporate restructurings, general insolvency law issues, national and international transactions – including distressed M&A – and all aspects of general corporate law.
His academic career reflects his professional specialisation: Thomas Liegl completed his Master’s degree in Business Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in 2020, graduating top of his year. During his studies, he undertook, amongst other things, an Erasmus placement at the Université Paris Dauphine and successfully participated in the Franz von Zeiller Moot Court on civil law. In 2026, he also completed his PhD in Business Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business with a thesis on corporate reorganisation law.
In addition to his extensive experience in advising on insolvency, restructuring and company law, Thomas Liegl gained practical experience in the IT and property sectors whilst still a student. Since joining CMS in 2020 – with interruptions for study-related stays abroad and research placements – he has continuously expanded his professional expertise. He passed the bar examination in 2024 with distinction.
