Munich – The KURZ Group, a specialist in thin-film technology based in Fürth, has established a joint venture with the Chinese technology company Jiangsu Horizon New Energy Technology Co. Ltd (Horizon) through Kurz Energy GmbH. Horizon is a manufacturer of high-performance separator films for lithium-ion batteries and an important supplier to e-mobility manufacturers worldwide.
The motivation for the joint venture, named Horizon-Kurz New Material Technology GmbH, is to bundle the competences and expertise of both companies for the European market. The aim is to significantly improve the reliability, lifetime and performance of lithium-ion batteries and to establish European supply chains and thus support e-mobility in Europe.
A team headed by lead partner Richard Mitterhuber and lead counsel Dr Berrit Roth-Mingram advised Kurz on all legal aspects of this cooperation. The parties have agreed not to disclose further details.
This was the first project for which CMS advised Kurz.
