CMS Hasche Sigle becomes German member of Arbitration Chambers Hong Kong

21/08/2013

Hong Kong – Commercial law firm CMS Hasche Sigle recently joined Arbitration Chambers Hong Kong as the German tenant. The Arbitration Chambers bring together experts in international arbitration from the main jurisdictions, covering the world’s leading economies. Arbitration Chambers Hong Kong is the first project of its kind in China. To date there are tenants from the UK, Australia and Hong Kong itself in the Chambers, which were established in September 2012. Now CMS Hasche Sigle has become the first tenant from Continental Europe. Talks are currently being held to expand the Chambers to include candidates from the US, Brazil and Switzerland. Under the rules of the Chambers, only one law firm can join from each jurisdiction.

CMS Hasche Sigle's dispute resolution team is regarded as a leader in Europe, combining expertise in developing practical solutions with extensive experience that goes back many years. In recent years, CMS Hasche Sigle has been particularly successful in international arbitration. Accordingly, expansion of its market presence to Hong Kong is a logical step in view of the steadily rising number of arbitration cases with an Asian dimension. CMS Hasche Sigle's presence in Hong Kong enables it to cement its current relationships and forge new ones to and across the Far East. The Arbitration Chambers provide an ideal platform for this purpose. A particular benefit is that CMS Hasche Sigle will be better placed to provide Asian parties with legal advice on their business operations in Europe via a local base in Asia. CMS Hasche Sigle's contact in Hong Kong is CMS partner Dr Nicolas Wiegand, a specialist in international arbitration.

Dr Klaus Sachs, Vice President of the International Court of Arbitration (ICC), one of the world's leading practitioners in the field of arbitration and a partner at CMS Hasche Sigle, commented on his firm's expansion to Hong Kong: "Arbitration Chambers Hong Kong fill a gap in the Hong Kong and China arbitration world by combining the resources and know-how of the best international arbitration specialists under one roof for the first time. We are delighted that our CMS team has now become part of this project."
