Ole Jani provides copyright and media law advice to clients across the media, technology and communications sector, in particular those offering content via digital platforms and with a focus on new business models. He has a particular expertise in the licensing of rights (both individually and collectively) and with respect to copyright levies. Ole is a very experienced copyright litigator and has represented parties in leading German copyright cases.
Ole supports clients at the interface between copyright law, politics and business to help shaping draft legislative measures. As a former policy adviser in the German parliament, he has extensive experience with both the EU and national legislative procedures. Ole is also regularly involved in M&A transactions, advising on IT and IP law issues, and he is familiar with the specific needs of start-ups. Some of the start-ups he works with are part of the CMS equIP programme.
Ole is a prolific author on copyright matters; inter alia, Ole co-authored Wandtke/Bullinger (eds.) Praxiskommentar zum Urheberrecht (a leading commentary on German copyright law, 5th edition 2019), Raue/Hegemann (eds.) Münchener Anwaltshandbuch Urheber- und Medienrecht (guide to German copyright and media law, 2nd edition 2017) as well as Moser/Scheuermann/Drücke (eds.) Handbuch der Musikwirtschaft (legal guide to the music business, 7th edition 2018).
Ole joined CMS in 2007 and was made partner in 2014. Ole is listed as an expert in his field and as a frequently recommended lawyer in leading law firm rankings.
