Climate action: using the law to drive change

CMS has partnered with @YoungCitizensUK to develop a brand new classroom resource that looks at #ClimateAction.

The new programme is available free to all UK secondary schools and introduces students to the UN Global Goals. It’s aim? To get young people thinking about climate action and how the law can be used to drive change.

Topics include:

  • who is responsible for tackling climate change
  • the key outcomes of a range of climate change related legislation
  • considering the role of the law in real life cases
  • how people are using the law to challenge decisions and instigate changes.

Three new resources have been created:

  • Teacher led classroom resource - examining the topic of the environment and climate change through a broad citizenship and legal lens.
  • A legal workshop – looking at the laws surrounding the energy sector and the environment, delivered by legal professionals in the classroom.
  • A new ‘Legal Experts in Schools’ module - a new one-hour unit looking at the topic of the environment and climate change, delivered by legal professionals in the classroom.

These new resources help to further cement CMS’s long-term commitment to education, social impact and sustainability and provide a legacy that will continue to increase understanding about the important role that law can play in climate action.
