Policy Wording & Claims

Back to Insurance

The global (re)insurance industry has more contracts in place, containing more nuanced information than its underwriters, brokers, captives and buyers could ever hope to read.

Meanwhile, regulators are demanding clarity on the market’s exposures to emerging risks such as cyber and terrorism ,and a well-publicised tendency towards relaxing terms and conditions has increased this risk considerably.

CMS’ market-leading policy wording and claims practitioners are at the apex of current legal thinking, helping (re)insurers, brokers and risk managers to solve disputes and manage exposures in new and dynamic ways.

Our Policy Wording & Claims Group regularly handles disputes across all classes of business in addition to advising on non-contentious matters. This includes advising on policy wordings both domestically and internationally.

The firm has a team of over 100 lawyers based in London, Bristol, Scotland and most jurisdictions across Europe. Combining our global coverage with our award-winning Re-Word technology and our Clause Match software, we are able to deliver flexible, efficient and cost-effective advice to our clients.

Re-Word and Clause Match are online reinsurance wordings services that enable reliable checks of entire contract portfolios. Users are able to then ascertain which contracts contain or have an absence of key clauses or contract terms which could determine coverage of a particular (re)insured peril.

Deployed by underwriting teams, these tools enable checks of 100% of contracts at renewal rather than just a fraction using manual systems. This highly innovative solution provides a level of automation in complex commercial contract and legal risk which has not been possible before and looks set to provide a template for many years to come.
