CMS advises Zonova on seed funding round to scale breakthrough antimicrobial technology
CMS has advised Zonova, the UK-based antimicrobial materials company, on the successful completion of its £2.1m seed funding round. The round was led by THENA Capital, following a first close by Angel Academe in early 2026, with participation from The Conduit Impact Fund, Arāya Sie Fund, The S100 Club, Animal Health Angels and a series of strategic investors from the healthcare and medical technology sectors.
The funding will accelerate the commercialisation of Zonova's proprietary Z-ROS® antimicrobial technology, which integrates directly into medical device polymers to prevent microbial colonisation and biofilm formation without relying on antibiotics or traditional surface coatings.
Founded by Dr Georgia Fleet and Carla Southworth, Zonova has developed a novel antimicrobial material platform designed to address two of the most urgent challenges facing global healthcare systems: healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance. The company plans to use the new funding to expand its research and development and commercial teams, advance manufacturing validation, grow its patent portfolio, and secure initial OEM licensing partnerships.
Tom Jameson, Corporate Partner at CMS, commented: “We're delighted to have supported Zonova on this important milestone. It's a privilege to work with ambitious, founder-led businesses at such a formative stage, and this round demonstrates real momentum. We look forward to watching the company scale into its next stage of life."
Dr Georgia Fleet, CEO and Co-Founder of Zonova, commented: "This funding marks a defining moment for Zonova, and we are grateful to Tom and the team at CMS for their expert guidance throughout the process. Navigating a multi-party seed round with investors across different structures and priorities is no small undertaking, and CMS provided clear, pragmatic advice at every stage. Their support allowed us to stay focused on the business while being confident the legal framework was in safe hands.”
The CMS team was led by Tom Jameson with support from Alexandra Stuart (Corporate).
