CMS adds renowned partner to market-leading pensions practice

4 November 2019

International law firm CMS is pleased to announce the appointment of pensions specialist Tim Green, bringing the total partner count across the UK pensions practice to 16. Tim joins from DWF, where he was National Head of the Pensions team.

Tim is an experienced pensions partner and advises trustees, sponsors, government bodies and providers in relation to all aspects of pensions law with particular expertise in retail, energy, nuclear, transport, public and charitable sectors. Among Tim’s recent highlights, Tim advised Safeway on the Safeway v Newton equalisation proceedings referred by the Court of Appeal to the Grand Chamber of the Court of Justice of the European Union. He is recognised as a leading individual in Legal 500 and Chambers and has been identified by clients as “the complete pensions lawyer”.

Mark Grant, Head of Pensions at CMS comments: “Building on the promotion of Johanna Clarke to partner in May, we are adding further depth to our market-leading pensions practice through this latest appointment. Tim is a significant hire for the team and brings with him a proven track record and deep understanding of the key pensions issues driving the market. His experience will strengthen our ability to continue delivering high-quality and cutting-edge advice to clients across the UK and we are delighted to welcome him on board.”

Commenting on his appointment, Tim says: “CMS is the market leader for pensions advisory work and pensions litigation and offers a significant platform to grow my practice. I look forward to joining the team and delivering real value for clients across the pensions arena.”

The CMS pensions practice has continued to strengthen its position over the past 12 months, advising on a string of ground-breaking deals including Stanhope Pension Trust’s £4.7bn pension buy-out transaction with Rothesay Life. The team also recently acted for LifeSight to become the first authorised master trust under the Pension Regulator’s new authorisation regime for defined contribution master trusts. In 2019, the team was named both “European Pensions Law Firm of the Year” at the European Pensions Awards and “UK Law Firm of the Year” at the Pension and Investment Provider Awards, cementing its market-leading position.
