Regulation nation?

UK regulators in 2026

1 min read
A mix of difficult-to-understand regulation phrases

The UK government wants to make regulators focus on growth.

As our web of quotes from senior minsters shows, they have repeatedly driven home the need for regulatory reform.

But the number of regulators in the UK and the complexity of their rulebooks make transformation tricky to navigate.

Issues of risk and unintended consequences abound – particularly where concerns about technological change, national security and online crime are driving calls for more regulation, not less.

Regulation attracts generalisation too. Different regulators get tarred with the same brush by their critics. When in fact some are much more forward looking and business-minded than others.

Our new report, Regulation nation?, looks at a sample of 18 regulators in the UK, outlining what they do and some of the key issues facing them.

Our experts also consider recent regulatory developments, as well as challenges in regulation such as promoting growth, ESG, and the impact of AI – both on the regulators and those they regulate.

You can fill in the form below to access the full report. Or you can browse the overviews of individual regulators below.
