CMS advises CityFibre on major expansion of Full Fibre partnership with Vodafone

25 November 2021

International law firm CMS has advised CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent Full Fibre platform, on a major expansion of its strategic partnership with Vodafone. The deal establishes Vodafone as CityFibre’s anchor customer for its Full Fibre digital infrastructure roll-out to up to eight million homes across the UK, as part of CityFibre’s £4 billion investment programme.

Through this roll-out, CityFibre will deploy dense full fibre infrastructure in 285 cities, towns and villages by 2025. As part of the deal, Vodafone has made long-term volume commitments across the entire nationwide footprint.

CMS also acted on behalf of CityFibre for the initial landmark strategic partnership agreement signed by the parties in November 2017 under which Vodafone committed to market ultra-fast consumer broadband services across a one million home CityFibre footprint in 12 cities.

Laurence Kalman, Partner at CMS, says: “We are thrilled to have advised our long-standing client, CityFibre, on another transformative deal which will accelerate Full Fibre broadband connectivity across the UK, and which firmly establishes CityFibre as the UK’s leading independent Full Fibre platform.”

Chris Gawn, General Counsel and Company Secretary at CityFibre, commented: “We have worked with CMS over many years and highly value their support and depth of experience. The CMS team played an integral role in helping us to secure this major milestone, which will deliver the benefits of Full Fibre to more people across the country.”

The CMS team was led by Laurence Kalman with support from Caroline Cooper (Senior Associate), Janine Ajoodan-Poor (Associate) and Abigail Atoyebi (Trainee Solicitor).
