International law firm CMS has advised TDR Capital on its investment in pet shop chain Jollyes.

TDR Capital is a leading European private equity firm with over €15 billion of assets under management. Its portfolio includes some major household names, including supermarket chain Asda, health & fitness club David Lloyd and restaurant chains Popeyes and Pizza Express. This latest investment will fuel Jollyes’ growth store plans and accelerate the roll out of grooming and veterinary-led community pet clinics. As part of the transaction, Andy Bond, executive chairman of Pepco Group and former CEO of Asda, will become non-executive chairman.

David Roberts, corporate partner at CMS, said: “Lockdown has given the opportunity to millions more Brits to bring pets into their world and one of the beneficiaries of that has the been the pet food and pet services industry. This is a really clever deal for TDR and one that we believe is poised for sustained growth. It was great to back up from their Popeyes deal and go almost straight into Jollyes. We really enjoyed working with the TDR team again.”

The CMS team was led by David Roberts and Stephen Kilshaw, and included Lukas Vician, Eloisa Jaye de Vera, Maria Doran, Magnus Chisolm (Corporate); Mark Joscelyne, Robert Sartor, Joshua Yard, Kristin Shelley, Aaron Fairhurst (Tax), Emma Burnett, Georgia Fishwick, Alex Gradinaru (Data Protection); Melissa Brett, Lucy Williams (Property); Finn McKay, Scott Traynor, Mark Walker (Employment); Ruth Marken, Rob Ward (Finance); Duncan Turner, Rachel Gillan, Haris Saleem, Craig Alexander (IP & IT); Donna Turner, Becky Harris-Mayhew, Feras Salim, Suman Sahi, Daniel Stewart (LSU); and Jae Fassam, Ibinabo Osasona (Pensions).
