CMS is pleased to announce the promotion of Laura West to partner in its Infrastructure, Construction and Energy Disputes (ICE Disputes) practice.

Based in the firm’s Edinburgh office, Laura helps clients to resolve complex, high value disputes providing strategic contract advice as well as advising when disputes have become formalised through a range of dispute resolution procedures including litigation, adjudication, mediation, expert determination and arbitration.

Laura is dual-qualified in Scots and English law and is a Law Society accredited specialist in construction law. She teaches construction law to postgraduate students at the University of Edinburgh and is a past Global Chair of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrator’s Young Members’ Group. She is also recognised in Legal 500 UK, where she is acknowledged as a leading lawyer.

Adrian Bell, CMS Partner and Co-Head of the ICE Disputes Practice, comments: “Laura is a key member of our practice, renowned for her deep expertise across the infrastructure, construction and energy sectors. She has established an exceptional reputation, and this promotion is a testament to her outstanding contributions and dedication. Laura’s promotion comes at an exciting time of growth for the practice, and her leadership will further strengthen our ability to deliver strategic advice to our clients in Scotland and beyond.”

Laura’s promotion builds on the recent partner additions to the firm’s ICE Disputes practice in Scotland. Caroline Maciver joined the firm as a partner from Burness Paull last month, while Fenella Mason also joined from Burness Paull in September last year.

Allan Wernham, Managing Director of CMS Scotland, says: “I wish to congratulate Laura on this well-deserved promotion. Our ICE Disputes practice is thriving, and Laura's promotion adds senior depth to our team in Scotland, positioning us perfectly to continue our growth and enhance our capabilities.”

Laura adds: “I am excited to step into my new role as partner and contribute to the practice’s growth ambition, as well as use my expertise to continue to deliver innovative advice to clients.”

CMS's ICE Disputes practice is recognised as a leader in its field and provides expert advice to clients across the infrastructure, construction, and energy sectors, including contractors, consultants, developers, and energy and power companies.
