1 September 2022

International law firm CMS is strengthening its market leading Financial Services practice with the addition of new partner James Geer, who joins the Financial Services Transactions team in London.

James has a broad range of experience advising on derivatives, financial regulation, structured finance, and insurance and pensions de-risking transactions.

Ash Saluja, Head of the Financial Services and Products practice at CMS, comments: “We are very excited to welcome James to the team. With an established track record in the pension risk transfer and wider insurance and financial markets, James adds considerable expertise, a new perspective and bench strength to the team’s offering, enhancing our ability to capitalise on the growing market for complex Financial Services transactions.”

James comments: “I am delighted to be joining the highly regarded Financial Services Transactions team at CMS. The firm’s recognised standing across the financial services and pensions sectors, combined with its strong international and cross-border capabilities, will enable me to broaden my relationships with the full range of financial institution clients involved throughout the pension risk transfer and broader international risk markets. I look forward to continuing to build the practice with Ash Saluja, Thom Lockley, Jenny Nanalal, Owen Ross and the rest of the team, and I am incredibly excited about the ambitions and culture of both the team and firm.”

James joins CMS from Sackers, where he was an associate director in the finance and investment group. Previously James was a senior associate at Clifford Chance where he qualified in 2010, and he also spent time building his finance expertise on secondment with global investment banks.
