CMS Holborn Asia appoints leading IP, Tech and Data Privacy partner in Singapore

1 April 2020

Building on the firm’s rapid expansion across Asia-Pacific, CMS Holborn Asia is pleased to announce the appointment of Intellectual Property (IP), Technology and Data Privacy specialist, Sheena Jacob, who joins as a partner in Singapore. Her appointment follows the arrival of IP Head Jonathan Chu in Hong Kong, and the relocation of Life Sciences and Technology partner Sarah Hanson to Singapore, in January, whom Sheena will work closely alongside as part of her regional role.

Sheena Jacob is a highly-ranked IP and Technology lawyer with more than 25 years' experience in the IP and technology field. Her practice covers a broad range of services including patent prosecution, trademark prosecution, IP disputes, commercial IP, data privacy and cybersecurity. She acts for Forbes 500 companies and startups, government organisations and statutory boards across a range of industries including technology, life sciences and media, helping clients build and extract value from their global IP assets.

Nick Beckett, CMS’ Head of Asia-Pacific IP and Global Co-Head of CMS Life Sciences & Healthcare Sector Group, comments: “Sheena is an outstanding appointment for the firm and arrives at a time of real growth for our IP, Technology and Life Sciences practices across Asia. Her proven track-record across these priority sectors is well aligned with the strengths of our international team and will be of significant value as we look to build out our capabilities in line with growing client demand.”

Sheena is one of only a handful of leading lawyers in the media and entertainment field in Singapore and is also at the forefront of privacy and data protection law. She joins the firm from JurisAsia LLC, an independent Singapore firm affiliated with Gowlings WLG, where she was Managing Partner and Head of IP, Tech and Data.

Toby Grainger, Head of the Singapore office at CMS, comments: "Singapore consistently ranks among the best in the world for its IP environment, thanks to its robust IP regime and alternative dispute resolution framework. With the demand for patent filings in the region growing year-on-year and the expansion of our IP practice in Hong Kong, we felt it was the right time to set up the new IP offering in Singapore. We are fortunate to have someone of Sheena's calibre leading the new practice. She boasts a first-rate reputation for IP, privacy and data protection work, which will no doubt help to fuel the growth of our wider TMT practice.”

Sheena Jacob adds: “CMS has a stellar reputation in IP, TMT and Life Sciences internationally, providing great synergies for the growth and development of my practice in Singapore and regionally. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues in Asia and further afield to develop the firm’s offering and deliver a fully integrated regional and international practice for clients.”
