17 Aug 2026 United Kingdom 4 min read

CMS is pleased to announce the appointment of Aniko Adam as a partner in its Competition team in London. Aniko joins CMS on 17 August from Clifford Chance, where she was Counsel and advised clients on a wide range of complex UK and European competition law matters.

Aniko has more than 15 years of experience advising on UK and EU competition law, with expertise in digital markets regulation, technology antitrust and merger control. She advises clients on complex M&A transactions, behavioural investigations, competition compliance, consumer protection matters, and foreign investment and national security reviews.

Her appointment further strengthens CMS’s competition and regulatory offering at a time when businesses are facing greater scrutiny of transactions and business conduct, alongside the rapid development of digital markets regulation in the UK and Europe. Aniko has extensive experience advising on the UK Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 and the EU Digital Markets Act, as well as in online advertising which continues to be a focus area for regulators worldwide. Her sector experience spans technology and digital markets, insurance, financial services, infrastructure, media, and consumer goods and retail.

Aniko has completed secondments to the Court of Justice of the European Union, Vodafone Group and Amazon, giving her valuable institutional and in-house perspective. She is recognised as a Key Lawyer by The Legal 500 UK in the EU and Competition category.

Neil Baylis, Partner and Co-Head of the CMS Competition team at CMS UK, said: “Aniko’s appointment is an important step in the continued development of our Competition practice. As regulation and enforcement become more complex, particularly across technology and digital markets, clients increasingly need advisers who can combine deep regulatory expertise with a clear understanding of their commercial priorities. Aniko brings exactly that combination and will enhance the support we provide to a number of key clients navigating this rapidly evolving landscape.”

Graeme Young, Partner and Co-Head of the CMS Competition team at CMS UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome Aniko to CMS. Competition law is playing an increasingly important role in shaping strategic business decisions, from major M&A transactions to the management of regulatory risk. Aniko’s experience across antitrust investigations, merger control and digital markets regulation will be invaluable as clients manage greater scrutiny and new regulatory demands.”

Aniko Adam said: “I am excited to be joining CMS. The firm’s international reach, sector expertise and integrated approach provide an excellent platform for supporting clients as competition and digital regulation play a growing role in their strategic decisions. I look forward to working with colleagues across the firm and building on CMS’s capabilities in digital markets and technology antitrust.”

Aniko’s appointment follows the recent hire of John Buyers in CMS’s Technology, Media, IP and Competition (TMIC) practice. John brings over thirty years of experience in information technology law, advising clients on digital transformation and digital regulation, with a particular emphasis on AI and machine learning.

CMS advises some of the world’s largest technology companies, and together these appointments further strengthen the firm’s technology and competition offering.
