CMS is pleased to announce that three of its partners – Munir Hassan, Louise Dalton, and Phil Duffield – have been named in the Top 100 of the Legal Power List 2026 published by Tamarindo. Now in its fifth edition, the ranking recognises the most influential legal professionals driving the renewable energy sector and the wider green transition across the United Kingdom.
This year's Legal Power List expands its scope beyond onshore and offshore wind to encompass battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar, and green fuels, reflecting the evolving landscape of the energy transition. Inclusion in this highly competitive list underscores CMS's continued leadership in advising on complex, market-shaping transactions across the full spectrum of renewable energy technologies.
- Louise Dalton has been recognised as a market-leading advisor on energy storage transactions and projects across Europe, with a particular focus on contracted revenue agreements. Her recognition as “Lawyer of the Year” at the Energy Storage Investment Awards 2025 was also highlighted.
- Munir Hassan has been recognised for leading CMS’s global energy group and for his recent work advising Equinor and others on renewables projects and transactions.
- Philip Duffield, who jointly heads the CMS energy storage practice, has been recognised for leading the team advising Fidra Energy on the 1.4GW Thorpe Marsh project, Europe’s largest debt-financed battery energy storage scheme, as well as the Coire Glas (1.3GW) and Loch Kemp (600MW) pumped hydro schemes.
Munir Hassan, CMS Partner and Head of the CMS Energy & Climate Change Group, comments: “It’s fantastic to see three CMS lawyers recognised in this year’s Legal Power List. This recognition reflects the strength of the firm’s market leading Energy & Climate Change practice, which is helping clients to navigate one of the most dynamic areas of legal practice today. Congratulations to my colleagues and to the other excellent lawyers recognised this year.”
Adam Barber, Chief Executive Officer of Tamarindo, adds: "We are witnessing a step change in renewable energy generation and storage, where the focus is no longer simply about scaling up the overall project capacity. Rather, it’s increasingly about implementing practical, commercially-focused ways in which this critical energy infrastructure can better stabilise and balance transmission networks and the grid. […] That’s why it’s imperative that we take the time to stop and celebrate the role played by key legal counsel. Congratulations to everyone featured in this latest, fully-refreshed edition of the Legal Power List.”
