David is a Senior Associate in the Construction and Engineering team. David provides strategic commercial advice in various industry sectors, including nuclear, energy & infrastructure, healthcare and large scale urban regeneration.

He has a particular focus on nuclear new build projects in the UK and in Europe, collaborative contracting and residential and commercial regeneration projects.

He advises employers, developers, funders and contractors on the full spectrum of development and engineering projects and has a keen knowledge of industry standard suites of contracts, including the JCT suite, NEC3/4 contracts and bespoke forms of contract, including on alliance arrangements.

Relevant experience

  • Sizewell C: MEH Alliance leading on multi-£billion alliance contract for the new Sizewell C (SZC) nuclear power station acting for five tier one contractors.  SZC is the UK’s second new nuclear power station in a generation following on from Hinkley Point C, and will be one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects
  • Ridgeback/AimCo in respect of multiple residential led build to rent schemes, including in respect of pragmatic commercial and drafting solutions, and given the “high risk” nature of the buildings these have required strategic Building Safety Act advice, including on BSR Gateway Submissions.
  • Hinkley Point C: MEH JV Alliance, a five party joint venture of contractors on an alliance contract for the MEH package for a new nuclear reactor at Hinkley, including advising on an NEC4 Alliance Contract and the JV agreement.
  • Project Oriel, the ~£400m first NHP scheme, a new eye care research and treatment centre for Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and UCL in joint venture. Including negotiations on NEC4 ECC pursuant to public procurement regime.
  • Candu Energy, in respect of a refurbishment of the Cernavodă nuclear power station in Romania.
  • ThinkHire/Think Energy Group, a manufacturer and distributor of relocatable, renewable power solutions for clients, supporting major infrastructure projects across the UK.
  • Muse Developments Limited in relation to various urban regeneration projects including their £250m mixed use New Victoria, Manchester development scheme on brownfield land next to Victoria Station, including 150,000 sq ft of commercial and retail space and two BTR towers of up to 520 beds and Talbot Gateway, Blackpool.
  • ThinkHire/Think Energy Group, a manufacturer and distributor of relocatable, renewable power solutions for clients, supporting major infrastructure projects across the UK.
  • Mayfield Partnership, the employer on refurbishment of 22 acre £1.4bn mixed-use community at the old Mayfield Depot Manchester.
  • CBRE UK Fund on their UK portfolio of retail, leisure and industrial parks, including multiple refurbishment and asset management construction projects.
