Kate Murphy is Of Counsel in CMS’ Insurance and Reinsurance Group. She has been at the firm for nearly 20 years having worked previously at a top global law firm in London. Kate is highly experienced in all types of insurance and reinsurance disputes including aviation, brokers E&O, solicitors PI and reinsurance. She has undertaken two client secondments, undertaking a Litigation Counsel role at both, the first at a leading broking house and the second at a major reinsurer. She understands how the insurance and reinsurance markets work and the pressures on in-house legal teams and claims-handlers. With over 24 years’ experience of complex litigation and coverage, Kate now specialises in aviation claims, in particular defending major aviation insurers in relation to war claims made by lessors and operators arising from the Russia/Ukraine war. She has also acted for reinsurers in relation to the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Centre.
