Lucy Charatan is a senior associate in the Antitrust, Competition and Trade Team at CMS London.  Lucy advises on a wide range of EU and UK competition law and regulatory issues. Her competition experience has included: advising on EU and UK merger control and FDI aspects of transactions, as well as advising clients on Article 101/Chapter I cartel investigations and Article 102/Chapter II dominance issues. Lucy also has experience in advising clients on competition law risk management and compliance training, state aid/subsidy control matters, sanctions and other regulatory issues. Lucy has been described as “an extremely good associate, very dedicated and detail-orientated and a pleasure to work with.”

Relevant experience

  • Alliance Pharmaceuticals during the CMA’s Chapter I investigation and its successful appeal before the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
  • Leicester City Football Club on a Chapter I investigation and its settlement with the CMA. 
  • Education Software Solutions on an investigation by the CMA into abuse of dominance, including the negotiation of a novel commitments remedy.
  • A pharmaceutical company on a Chapter II investigation, including the negotiation of undertakings to successfully resolve the case by way of commitments. 
  • Cadent Gas Limited on its RIIO-GD2 price control appeal before the CMA, where it succeeded on the majority of grounds appealed.
  • Equinor on the merger control and FDI aspects of their multi USD billion UK business combination and incorporated joint venture with Shell, creating the largest independent oil and gas company in the UK.
  • A newspaper publisher in relation to a joint venture between two of its competitors.
  • Phoenix Group on its strategic partnership with Schroders to launch a new private markets investment manager, including its notification to the European Commission.
  • Two investors on their acquisition of control of a portfolio of shopping centre assets, including notification of the transaction to the European Commission and State Administration for Market Regulation in China.
  • An energy company on the successful resolution of excessive pricing allegations made by Ofgem in relation to periods of transmission constraint.
  • Multiple clients on the submission of notifications to the Investment Security Unit under the National Security and Investment Act 2021.
