Melanie Hughes is a Partner in the Real Estate Transactions team based in our London office, and is recognised as a “Next Generation Partner” in Legal 500. Melanie is well known for her expertise in mixed use development projects, from the “site set up” stage to residential plot sales and commercial pre-lets, and a host of other matters which arise on complex schemes. She has worked with top class international developers on some exciting developments and combines her knowledge and experience of residential off-plan sales with her general commercial property expertise to great effect throughout the (often lengthy) lifespan of a development.

Melanie also acts on general commercial property investment work, including sales and purchases and landlord and tenant matters. 

She qualified in 2005 and joined the firm in 2023. 

Relevant experience

  • Battersea Power Station Development Company on retail and office lettings as well as residential plot sales, and including the portfolio sale of 92 high value apartments to an investor.
  • A Hong Kong listed developer on site set-up, structuring, estate management, residential unit sales and commercial leases at two high value developments in London and a large regeneration scheme in Manchester.
  • Related Argent on site set-up, structuring and residential sales for their developments at Brent Cross Town, a very large regeneration project for north London, in multiple phases.
  • Lendlease on multiple matters on a number of mixed use development projects including Elephant Park, Deptford Landings and Potato Wharf.
  • Mitsui Fudosan on structuring, site set up and residential apartment sales at Television Centre, White City.
