Stephen has worked as a lawyer in consumer finance for over 25 years in addition to holding other senior management and director roles directly within the financial services industry. 

He was most recently a senior partner at a large UK national law firm, with strategic responsibility for its Financial Services Sector. Clients typically include domestic and international banks, motor finance houses, and other specialist retail and point of sale lenders. Stephen has regularly been included in legal directories citing his experience in financial services compliance and regulation and has been described as "highly experienced. A real professional who is approachable, straightforward and direct" by Chambers.

Outside work, Stephen also volunteers with his local search and rescue team and is a rescue boat Coxswain.

  • An international credit card brand to provide advice on technical interpretation of new FCA rules.
  • Several major motor finance businesses in relation to the suitability of their commission charging structures.
  • Introducing a major US point of sale lender to the UK market and producing all of the necessary customer documentation with associated policies and processes. 
  • Several major UK lenders in relation to the implementation of the new Consumer Duty.
  • A CMA9 bank on revisions to its standard product terms and conditions for all customer facing documentation.
