CMS named Scotland’s Legal Advisor of the Year for second year running

CMS has been awarded ‘Legal Advisor of the Year’ at the prestigious Scottish Business Insider Deals & Dealmakers Awards, held in Glasgow.

The Deals & Dealmakers Awards acknowledge and reward excellence in corporate finance transactions, and are based on deals completed in the fiscal year 2015/16. Over the past year, the Corporate team in Scotland have continued to build on their broad and diverse client base.

The judging panel said the firm's deals team, which acted on more than 150 transactions in the year, “is run very much like a business itself”. As well as the quality of deals it has been involved in, the panel was also impressed by an innovative approach which includes disclosing how a deal structure stacks up for clients.

A number of CMS clients were also shortlisted for awards including Smart Metering Systems plc who were awarded ‘Acquisition of the Year’ for their synchronized acquisitions of CH4, Trojan Utilities and Qton Solutions, and key client Caldan Therapeutics who won ‘Early Stage/Risk Capital Deal of the Year’ award, a spin-out from the universities of Glasgow and Southern Denmark - they develop potential treatments for type 2 diabetes. CMS advised on both deals, with the teams being led by partners Graeme Bruce and Jack Letson with assistance from a range of lawyers drawn from Glasgow and across the UK.

This is the second consecutive year that CMS has won this award, reinforcing the firm’s market leading position in Scotland.
