CMS UK is delighted to be the only law firm awarded the highest tier ranking of ‘highly recommended’ in the new table showcasing ‘patent prosecution – law firms’ in the MIP ‘IP Stars’ Directory. The Directory already recognises a number of individuals within the practice but, until now the CMS team as a whole has not qualified to feature in the IP Stars table for patent prosecution since it features only boutique patent & trademark attorney firms. Now, the patent prosecution ranking not only recognises notable boutique firms, but also reflects the changing market where tier 1 patent prosecution also can form part of a more complete law firm offering.
Dr. Rob Stephen, Head of the CMS Patent Attorney Group and Co-Head Life Sciences & Healthcare at CMS says “With this new table, Managing IP has assessed and ranked us as the only patent attorney offering from a law firm providing a top tier service. The creation of the new IP Stars table not only demonstrates the unique market position held by the CMS patent attorney team but also demonstrates that we are at the top of our game. We are extremely grateful to our clients and peers who have enabled this fantastic recognition.”
The newly released MIP IP Stars ranking can be found here and follows a run of excellent rankings for the patent attorney team. The team has been ranked in Tier 1 in the UK Legal 500 PATMA: Patent Attorneys Directory in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 and has been recommended in the IAM Patent 1000 and Juve Directories for ‘patent prosecution’ and ‘patent filing’ since 2021. For the past 2 years, the IAM Patent 1000 has also featured CMS in the exclusive European Patent Office ranking table of firms having particular expertise in practice before the EPO. The Financial Times has consistently recognised the CMS ‘Biotechnology, Food & Healthcare’ sector in the ‘gold’ category of their annual ranking of leading patent law firms and the CMS ‘Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals’ and’ IT & Software’ sectors in the silver category.
The CMS patent attorney practice continues to disrupt the traditional boutique approach to provide a service that meets the needs of modern business practice. The CMS patent team combines patent litigation with one of the largest patent attorney practices within a full-service law firm in Europe, to offer a fully integrated service for clients. Our patent team also work alongside regulatory, corporate and commercial lawyers (among many other specialists). This means we are truly a “one stop shop” for companies wishing to file and defend or challenge patent, SPC and regulatory exclusivity rights.
