Rent Relief – Options for Landlords and Tenants

Over the past 12 months, we have seen short-term statutory intervention in various jurisdictions and temporary rent concessions agreed between landlords and tenants trying to mitigate the impact of Covid on tenants’ businesses. Clearly we are not out of the woods yet. Some countries are coming out of lockdown, others imposing new lockdowns. There is likely to be a risk of further disruption to landlords and tenants, and also inevitably an increased risk of future pandemics. Now is the time for landlords and tenants to start taking a longer term view, and consider how this future risk should be dealt with in lettings.
