The Media Act 2024 gives Ofcom new powers to draft and enforce a Video-on-demand Code, similar to the existing Broadcasting Code, to ensure that VOD service providers are subject to similar rules and standards as traditional linear service providers. This new regime is aimed at the largest VOD services (so-called “Tier 1” services), and for the first time also captures certain international VOD players that previously would have fallen outside the scope of UK media regulation.
