The European Union is undertaking the most significant reform of its product liability and product safety framework in decades. Through measures including the new Product Liability Directive (EU) 2024/2853, the General Product Safety Regulation, and related initiatives affecting digital products, AI-enabled systems, software and connected devices, the legal framework will address emerging technologies, evolving supply chains and changing consumer expectations. The UK is also reviewing its product liability legislation with the Law Commission delegated to assess possible changes to the substantive law.
