Zsolt P. Okányi is an Equity Partner and an attorney admitted to the bar in Hungary, New York State, and Italy. Zsolt leads CMS’s Hungarian litigation & arbitration practice and is the Head of CMS’ Central and Eastern European (CEE) Disputes team, having also served as CMS’ Global Head of Disputes over the last 8 years.

Zsolt possesses nearly 25 years of experience in litigation and arbitration proceedings, including representations before Hungarian national courts, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. His extensive track record encompasses investment and international commercial arbitration cases before the ICC, LCIA, VIAC, DIS, and SCIA, as well as various CEE regional arbitral institutes and ad hoc proceedings under UNCITRAL rules. In addition to general commercial disputes, Zsolt’s practice specifically extends to banking, media, tech, aviation, automotive, energy, ESG/environmental and corporate/post-M&A arbitration, as well as disputes arising from FIDIC-based construction contracts.

Zsolt has also very extensive knowledge and experience with white-collar crime defense work and heads the firm’s criminal investigation practice in Budapest.

Zsolt is recognised as one of the leading litigation and arbitration experts in Hungary by all the various directories.  Legal 500 described Zsolt as having “great analytical skills”, “excellent contacts”, ”an outstanding sense of strategy” and extremely “reliable and trustworthy”.
