Cost subsidy for Corona testing in companies

NewsMonitor Employment Law - Epiode 5

Published 26/02/2021

In future, companies that offer in-house corona testing will receive a cost subsidy under the In-House Testing Act. Funding is provided not just to test employees, but also to test people outside the company—relatives, customers, or employees of neighbouring companies. However, according to the wording of the law, companies are not required to admit third parties to their tests. In-house corona testing is an (occupational) medical examination. Testing must therefore be carried out by people authorised under medical law. It is not mentioned in the law whether occupational physicians are also allowed to test people from outside the company.

The Austria Wirtschaftsservice Gesellschaft (AWS) will be responsible for processing funding applications. The scheme will provisionally apply to tests carried out between 15 February and 30 June 2021; the exact funding guidelines will be worked out by the Ministry of Commerce, with the involvement of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance. According to the Minister of Commerce, Margarete Schramböck, a subsidy of € 10 per test is being considered.
