In accordance with our forward-looking approach to legal services, environmental protection, gender equality, social commitment and much more, CMS has been actively addressing various aspects of sustainability for many years now. We began setting up a structured sustainability management system in 2020. Our first Sustainability Report summarised what we have achieved as CMS Germany since then, and where we would like to make more progress in the future.
The report is based on the German Sustainability Code (DNK), an internationally recognised standard for sustainability reporting, and covers the period 2020/2021. As we wish to provide the very latest information on our sustainability activities, we also included relevant information beyond the 2021 financial year that was available by the editorial deadline (31 August 2022).
The report includes:
- the ESG goals we have set ourselves;
- the organisational structure we have put in place to achieve these goals;
- the specific measures we have already implemented; and
- the additional initiatives that we are planning in order to expand our ESG advice and embed professional sustainability management in our processes.
The topics covered include employee training, the diversity of our teams and the social commitment that finds expression in our pro bono services and the CMS Foundation. We have also documented our efforts around responsible resource management and sustainable procurement.
For us, the report marks a milestone in our sustainability agenda. Its publication was made possible in particular by the dedicated work of 30 colleagues from across many different areas of our firm.
At CMS, ESG-compliant action goes hand in hand with transparent communication. We will therefore report regularly on our progress towards meeting sustainability requirements.
The next comprehensive sustainability report is planned for 2026, based on the sustainability strategy we are currently developing together. Information on our environmental performance will also be available in our EMAS environmental statement, which has already been submitted to the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) for registration and will subsequently be published on this website.
