Arne Schmieke specialises in e-commerce and online payments. In particular, he advises digital businesses on legal issues relating to consumer protection, data protection and platform regulation. In the field of online payments, he places particular emphasis on consumer credit law, advising on ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ (BNPL) products, as well as on contractual and civil law issues relating to digital payment services. In addition, he advises on IT law matters and provides representation in and out of court.
In 2021, Arne Schmieke gained in-house experience during a 6-month secondment as part of Airbnb's European legal department. From 2013 to 2018, he was a research assistant at the Chair of Civil Law, European Private Law, Private International Law and Comparative Law of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Christian von Bar at the University of Osnabrück.
In 2019 he started his legal career at CMS and became Counsel in 2024.
