Ethnicity

CMS was one of the first law firms to become a signatory of the ‘Race at Work’ Charter and commit to its five principles:

  1.  Appoint an Executive Sponsor for race
  2. Capture ethnicity data and publicise progress
  3. Commit at Board level to zero tolerance of harassment and bullying
  4. Make clear that supporting equality in the workplace is the responsibility of all leaders and managers
  5. Take action that supports ethnic minority career progression

CMS has featured in the Black Solicitors Network’s BAME Education & Careers Guide since 2018.

2018 publication, see pages 106-107
2019 publication, see pages 16-17

Every year we host and sponsor a number of events related to promoting and supporting ethnic monitories in the legal profession. Past events included: the Black Solicitors Network’s Junior Lawyers Division, Black History Month, Black Brexit with the Black Cultural Archives, the annual African & Caribbean Society Leadership Conference in partnership with the Sponsors for Educational Opportunity.

In Scotland we work closely with SEMLA, the Scottish Ethnic Minorities Lawyers’ Association and have arranged additional tailored sessions for their members part of our Early Talent Acquisition open days.
