The EU has led the way with the introduction of sector-specific regulation to address competition and wider issues with large online platforms designated as "gatekeepers".  The EU Digital Markets Act entered into force in November 2022 and will start fully to bite in spring 2024. The UK has been looking in parallel at sector specific ex ante regulation of a type rarely introduced in the UK, concluding that regulatory solutions were necessary to tackle competition issues in the digital sector. After much delay, the Digital Markets Unit promises to be put on a statutory footing and given new powers to tackle issues with digital firms with "significant market status". What do these new regimes mean for businesses in the sector? How do they compare and contrast? After an overview of these different regimes, this webinar will look at their key implications for business.
