The annual Professional Indemnity Seminar for insurance professionals is taking place on Wednesday, 7 June 2023.

As usual, the event will provide an update on legal issues of interest to all PI classes, as well as relevant content for specific sectors.

There will be three presentations over the course of the morning, followed by an opportunity for networking. Please find the details of the sessions and speakers below.

1.    Dishonesty issues in Professional Indemnity claims - presented by Zoe Burge.

Following our representation of AXIS in the high-profile defence of Discovery Land's proceedings arising from the largest theft of client money (~£13 million) by a UK solicitor and the leading case on dishonesty in some years, we will consider where the case law rests for Insurers when dealing with dishonest solicitors.

2.    Regulatory Keynote - presented by Elisabeth Bremner and Sarah Brook.

This regulatory keynote presentation will focus on the new FCA Consumer Duty.  It will consider how the Duty impacts PI insurers’ regulatory obligations, particularly in respect of claims handling, and its likely impact on claims from insureds operating in the financial services sector.

3.    ESG and the impact for the Professional Indemnity market - presented by Simon Garrett and Emma Hobkinson.

This presentation will cover regulatory risk related to ESG and greenwashing, with an emphasis on asset manager Professional Indemnity policies, audit reform and assurance services.
