The appeal of using M2M in logistics and transportation is great. Especially in the logistics sector where competition to achieve maximum capacity and highest possible efficiency is increasing and M2M solutions can help to alleviate the pressures faced. Issues associated with asset tracking, fleet management or vehicle failures can be solved through the use of M2M technology.
On a commercial level this means companies can make operational processes smoother, optimise performance, reduce the risk of loss or theft, improve quality of service and facilitate communication. This also applies for cargo shipments by air, rail and water. With regards to transportation, M2M is particularly key in relation to traffic management and the monitoring and controlling of traffic flow, as well as passenger services, for example enabling operators to provide up-to-date travel information.
