International law firm CMS has advised the creators of personalised running coaching app and EquIP member Runna on a Seed+ fundraising round led by JamJar, the Innocent Drinks founders’ venture capital fund, Eka Ventures, Venrex and Creator Ventures.

Launched in 2021 by Dom Maskell and Ben Parker, two university friends who were keen to share their love of running to a wide audience, Runna has fast become a leading running coaching app, used by hundreds of thousands of people in over 180 countries. This funding will allow the team to enhance the app with new features, develop and train sophisticated coaching algorithms and incorporate the use of AI to enhance its features.

CMS Corporate Anthony Waller commented: “It has been a real pleasure to advise the Runna team on this fundraising round. Dom and Ben are passionate about bringing the benefits of running to as many people as they can. Their passion has allowed them to get some high-profile backers early on in their journey, and I look forward to seeing their exciting ideas come to life. I wish them every success.”

Early backers of Runna include ultra-athlete and double-world record holder Joshua Patterson, Olympic Triathletes Alex Yee and Beth Potter, Irish rugby union player Greg O’Shea and British Olympic marathon runner Steph Davis.

Dom Maskell, Runna Co-Founder and CEO, added: “We are very grateful to Anthony and his team for their advice and support throughout this fundraising round.

“Being a member of EquIP has given us the best possible start. CMS has stood by us, and we have been able to rely on the expert advice and ongoing support from CMS lawyers. We are excited to start this new chapter and bring an even better coaching experience to our existing and future users.”

The CMS team was led by Anthony Waller, supported by Greg Turton (Corporate).
