The A1/A6 motorway is an availability-based PPP, and is one of the largest PPP projects undertaken in the Netherlands. The motorway forms part of the Schiphol–Amsterdam–Almere corridor, which is a strategic transport axis providing high-capacity connectivity to Amsterdam, Schiphol Airport and the northern Randstad region. The project includes critical infrastructure such as (i) the Diemen Railway bridge over the A9-A1 bypass; (ii) the Amsterdam to Rhine Canal Bridge (Amsterdam Rijnkanaal); (iii) the Vecht aqueduct; (iv) the Muiderberg railway bridge; and (v) the New Hollandse bridge.

Serena Industrial Partners is a leading independent fund manager focused on mid-market real infrastructure development with an industrial focus.

CMS Partners Michael Carroll and Rob Gray comment: "CMS has structured and documented hundreds of PPP and PFI projects across the UK and Europe, and we were delighted to have supported Serena on the acquisition of one of Europe’s signature PPP projects. It was a pleasure working with the Serena team and we look forward to continuing to support their plans going forward.”

The CMS team was led by M&A partner Michael Carroll and infrastructure and project finance partner Rob Gray, with support from associates Konrad Rawicz and Anna Ghataure. Financing aspects of the transaction were led by project finance partner Jonathan Dames supported by associate Honey Kelly-Evans. Competition advice was provided by Jacqueline Vallat and Sebastian Casselbrant-Multala. Dutch advice was provided by a team led by Cecilia Weijden and Jeroen Berlage, and including Marcellina Rietvelt and Kilian Rowel. German advice was provided by Sebastian Becker and Nora Zabel.
