International law firm CMS is proud to announce the recent appointment of Sarah Vasani and Guy Pendell to significant roles within the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Sarah Vasani has been appointed to the ICC’s International Court of Arbitration, while Guy Pendell has been appointed Chair of the ICC UK Arbitration and ADR Committee. Both appointments are for three-year terms, effective 1 July 2024.
Sarah, who co-heads CMS’s International Arbitration practice, will represent the United States of America as a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration from 2024 to 2027. The ICC International Court of Arbitration is an institution for the resolution of international commercial disputes. It operates under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce and consists of a president, 19 vice-presidents, and 170 members from 119 countries.
Sarah comments: “I am deeply honoured to have been selected to represent the United States as a member of the Court, and I look forward to working alongside my fellow Court members in exercising judicial supervision over international arbitral proceedings and ensuring the quality and enforceability of arbitral awards globally. This appointment will enable me to contribute to the Court’s important work in resolving international business disputes for commercial parties around the globe and is in line with CMS’s commitment to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the global dispute resolution system that so many of our clients rely on..”
Guy, who served as Vice-Chair of the ICC UK Arbitration and ADR Committee since 2017, now assumes the role of Chair. In this role, Guy will lead the committee in its representation of the UK with the ICC and in engaging with clients, solicitors, barristers, law firms, chambers and other stakeholders on policy, practice and standards on arbitration and alternative dispute resolution in the UK. Guy heads CMS’s Disputes practice and has over 25 years’ experience handling corporate/commercial disputes and arbitration.
