CMS UK signs up to the BPF Net Zero Pledge

07/12/2022

CMS UK is pleased to announce that it is joining the BPF Net Zero Pledge, an initiative led by the British Property Federation (BPF), aiming to help its members to be net neutral by 2050 and accelerate the transition to a net neutral built environment.

Launched in June 2022, the BPF Net Zero Pledge calls on all BPF members to commit to net neutral targets and plans, sharing research knowledge and insight, as well as supporting each other and the wider industry to accelerate the transition to net neutral.

Mark Heighton, Co-Head of the CMS International Real Estate team, comments: “The Property industry can do a lot to reduce its carbon footprint and its impact on the environment. As a future facing law firm, we recognise our responsibility towards the environment and have already done a lot of work on our journey to become net neutral. We are delighted to support this BPF initiative and look forward to working with other members and sharing our knowledge and experience with the industry.”

Sustainability is a central and strategic priority for the firm which became one of the first major law firms to commit to set Science Based Targets in 2018. Now approved, the targets focus on 30%-reduction of emissions by 2025 and 50%-reduction by 2030 for our own operations, as well as for our supply chain. The firm will also offset remaining emissions to go net zero by 2025 and has introduced a programme of over 20 workstreams to address climate change.

The firm was awarded A- by the Carbon Disclosure Projects (CDP) for how it’s addressing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and A for supply chain efforts. This is above the legal sector average score of C. CDP runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states, and regions to manage their environmental impacts.
