The City of London Law Society (CLLS) – the professional representative body for solicitors and law firms in the City of London – has today launched a new specialist committee focused on Intellectual Property (IP) Law.

The new IP Law Committee will be chaired by David Parrish, Partner in CMS’s top-ranked IP team. Its launch comes at a time when developments in IP law are increasingly important to so many different areas of business. The committee’s scope will include technical IP law, litigation, and the impacts on IP law caused by innovations in AI and data law.

The CLLS’s specialist committees bring together the expertise of leading practitioners across the sector – from financial law, training, and employment to company law, ESG, and arbitration – and channel advice to regulators, the Government, lawmakers, and other important stakeholders.

David Parrish said: “I am very much looking forward to working with the IP committee members, each of whom will bring a wealth of expertise across the various fields of IP law. The IP landscape is dynamic and complex and will no doubt present opportunities to collaborate with other CLLS committees, including the Artificial Intelligence committee.”

Colin Passmore, Chair of the CLLS, added: “The formation of our 22nd specialist committee is welcomed by all CLLS members. Intellectual Property is a key area in City law, and is widely reflected across our corporate member firms. London packs a global punch in IP, channelling the arts, entertainment, tech, and film industries which are so important to the UK. Our new committee will help advance the interests of the profession, and UK and international businesses which have chosen to be based here in the City of London.”
