International law firm CMS was named Private Equity Team of the Year at the 2023 Lawyer Awards ceremony held in London, alongside being Commended and Highly Commended in two further categories.
CMS won Private Equity Team of the Year for its work with a consortium comprising Macquarie Asset Management and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation on the acquisition of a 60% stake in National Grid’s UK gas transmission and metering business. At the time, March 2022, this was the second largest M&A deal in the UK and was one of the energy market’s largest transactions in Europe. In making the award the judges commented on CMS’ delivery of a mammoth deal, with complexities around regulation and financing supported by strong client feedback.
Charles Currier, CMS Partner who led on the deal said: “We are delighted to win this award which recognised our strong experience in the energy sector, particularly regulated critical national infrastructure assets.”
Two other CMS teams were also recognised at the awards with the Real Estate Team Highly Commended for its work with Moorfields Eye Hospital and the CMS Funds Team Commended for its work with Orchard Street Investment Management.
