Alana is an Associate within the Scottish Planning team at CMS. Alana also has a valuable insight having previously worked in the public sector as a planner. 

She advises on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious planning matters. Her practice regularly includes advising on the following: consenting strategy; application reviews; permitted development rights; section 42 applications; Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPOs); Development Consent Orders (DCOs); Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs); appeal proceedings; enforcement advice and representations; and planning agreements. 

Relevant experience

  • SSE Renewables in relation to the Seagreen offshore wind farm. Providing strategic advice on the onshore and offshore consenting strategy. Advising on applications to the Energy Consents Units and Marine Scotland. Reviewing environmental information. 
  • Amp Energy Solar Inc in relation to Amp’s battery storage projects at Hunterston and Kincardine. Reviewing conditions and advising on the section 36 consenting process. Also provided due diligence support to Amp in relation to a proposed new battery storage project. 
  • National Grid Electricity Transmission plc on the Scotland England Green Link 1 (SEGL1) and the Scotland England Green Link 2 (SEGL2) interconnector projects. Providing advice on the promotion of a DCO and CPO. Drafting the statement of reasons and other documents for the CPO and DCO. Reviewing land rights and advising on permitted development. Reviewing the EIA chapters. 
  • Cadent Gas Limited in relation to the HyNet North West hydrogen Project. Providing advice on the drafting of the DCO and CPO. 
  • Edinburgh St James (GP) Limited on CPO compensation in respect of the St James Quarter development. 
  • Falkirk Council on the Grangemouth Flood Protection Scheme. Providing advice on the promotion of a CPO. Reviewing the EIA chapters and advising on land acquisition and compensation.
