Alex Filiantris is a Senior Associate in the Insurance and Reinsurance Group working on instructions arising in the healthcare, social care and life sciences sectors. She is a dual-qualified lawyer, having qualified in South Africa and cross-qualified in the UK. She has specialised in clinical negligence and catastrophic injuries since 2014, with her practice in South Africa focusing on claimant clinical negligence and involving varied claims only of the utmost severity including where patients had suffered cerebral palsy and spinal injuries as a result of negligence. She was named in Chambers and Partners UK Guide 2025 for Clinical Negligence Mainly Defendant as an “Associate to Watch”.

Alex now acts for Medical Defence Organisations defending their members in medical malpractice claims, representing clinicians who are appearing before their regulatory bodies, assisting clients at Inquests and assisting clinicians in respect of criminal investigations relating to their practice. Alex also advises insurers and private health and social care providers on medical malpractice claims and insurers on insurance policy coverage.

Alex is highly experienced in dealing with high value, complex medical malpractice matters. With her extensive experience acting for both claimants and defendants, she takes a pragmatic and cost effective approach to claims to ensure these are dealt with proportionately for clients. She approaches regulatory, inquest and criminal matters considerately and supports clients in navigating these stressful investigations with kindness.
