Chris is a Senior Associate in the CMS Pensions team.  

With over ten years’ experience Chris advises trustees and employers of occupational pension schemes (both DB and DC) of all sizes on a full range of pension issues. His current clients cover a wide range of industries, including a number of household names in the manufacturing, financial services and IT sectors.  His more recent experience has been focused on liability reduction, closures to accrual and scheme merger exercises. 

In his time as a pensions lawyer, Chris has spent six months on secondment at the Pension Protection Fund during which time he acquired a detailed understanding of the PPF assessment process and the PPF levy regime in particular.

Chris has more recently spent eight months on secondment with the Universities Superannuation Scheme advising on a broad range of pensions issues.

Relevant experience

  • The pension scheme trustee for a global technology company’s defined benefit schemes in the UK on the significant merger of three existing schemes into a new £1bn pension scheme and the implementation of new funding arrangements.  
  • The Trustee of a multi-billion pound defined contribution occupational pension scheme on the bulk transfer of money purchase assets to a master trust.
  • Employers and trustees on understanding pension issues in relation to members with protected person status in the coal and electricity industries.
